On behalf of the ULMWP and the people of West Papua, I send my deepest sympathy and solidarity with the people of Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and all affected countries, during your endurance of Cyclone Harold and its devastating effects.

While the whole world faces the terrible coronavirus pandemic, our fellow Melanesian nations of Vanuatu and Solomon Islands have also been suffering from the destructive force of Cyclone Harold, which has wreaked havoc across the countries and caused the deaths of over 20 people in Solomon Islands. I would like to convey my deepest condolences to the families of all those who have lost loved ones in this tragedy.

As the global threat of climate change continues to escalate, such cyclones are becoming increasingly common and more dangerous. West Papua stands with Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and all fellow Pacific nations in our joint fight for climate justice.

Like you, we West Papuans are also facing the threats of coronavirus and climate change, along with the increasingly brutal Indonesian military occupation of our country. In the proud traditions of our ancestors, we will continue to stand together and struggle for a Pacific region which is totally free from such occupation; one where we stand hand in hand to support one another in our time of need.

I pray for our brothers and sisters in Solomon Islands and Vanuatu and for your recovery from the destruction caused by this terrible cyclone. We will never forget the incredible enduring spirit and love from the people of Solomon Islands and Vanuatu for West Papua’s freedom. We very much hope that you will recover soon and stand strong.

May God bless Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and the wider Pacific region, especially during this difficult time.
West Papua stap wetem yu.
